Social Security Benefits to increase by .3 % in 2017

Monthly Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits for nearly 65 million Americans will increase 0.3 percent beginning in January 2017.  The new maximum monthly SSI payment will be $735 for an individual and $1,103 for a couple. The Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) threshold for the non-blind disabled increases to $1,170/month. The Trial Work Period (TWP) threshold will be $840/month.

A worker will get a Quarter of Coverage for each $1,300 of earnings in a calendar year. One can only earn a maximun of four (4) quaters of coverage in a calendar year.
