Community Outreach Coordinator

 

Immediate opening for a Community Outreach Coordinator at Maryland Volunteer Lawyer’s Service (MVLS). The Community Outreach Coordinator works closely with the Deputy Director and program staff to represent MVLS in the communities we serve across Maryland and to expand public awareness of the free legal services our volunteer lawyers provide.  The Community Outreach Coordinator’s responsibilities include working closely with MVLS management, staff and volunteers to increase the organization’s visibility, to promote and build relationships within the communities we serve and to expand the reach of our programs to underserved communities.  The Community Outreach Coordinator also will plan, coordinate and attend outreach events with a focus on targeting individuals who are eligible for services through the MVLS Foreclosure Prevention and Consumer Protection Project. The Community Outreach Coordinator reports to the Deputy Director, but is expected to also work closely with program, development and communications staff.

 

Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS), founded in 1981, is the oldest and largest volunteer legal services organization in Maryland.  The mission of MVLS is to provide quality civil legal services to Marylanders of limited means. 

 

Job Description:

-        Responsible for planning and executing comprehensive outreach activities to support MVLS pro bono programs in coordination with MVLS program staff

-        Build on existing relationships and forge new ones with nonprofits, civic groups, businesses, the faith community, block clubs and other organizations and individuals

-        Manage relationships with program directors and communication personnel from legal services organizations and housing counseling agencies to coordinate outreach efforts

-        Plan innovative community education and engagement activities to stimulate program involvement in targeted communities

-        Identify new communities and partners for outreach efforts and develop and implement an outreach plan to engage those identified

-        With the MVLS senior staff, support media events to promote the core pro bono program

-        Attends various outreach events, regional fairs and conferences to promote MVLS programs

-        Assist in design, creation and distribution of MVLS program and project information to the public, including public libraries, courts, nonprofits, government agencies and other legal services providers

-        Assist staff in updating the organization’s website and social media regularly with information about outreach events, program announcements and news surrounding the program

 

 

Job Skills:

-        Excellent written and oral communication skills essential

-        Ability to draft clear written content for use on the program website, social media and print materials

-        Able to confidently speak to and communicate with diverse audiences

-        Excellent computer, data entry, and organization skills

-        Must be detail oriented and able to manage organization and distribution of a variety of outreach materials

-        Team player able to work with staff, volunteer lawyers and community partners

-        Comfortable working with diverse populations in a variety of settings

-        Client-centered customer service skills are essential to success in this position 

-        Experience organizing outreach and educational campaigns

-        Spanish language skills a plus

 

Abilities:

-        Maintain effective working relationships with non-profit and corporate business partners, the public and other agencies

-        Communicate effectively

-        Plan, schedule and organize multiple priorities and a high volume of work

-        Routine statewide travel required, though primarily in Central Maryland

-        Some evening and weekend hours required

 

Education and Experience:

-        Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university

-        One to three year’s experience in the design and implementation of public outreach program or related experience

-        Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs

-        Demonstrated commitment to underserved communities/experience with nonprofits and/or legal services is a strong plus

-        Experience with social media campaigns and website updates is a plus

Compensation:

Mid-$30,000s
