A Rose by Any Other Name: Understanding the Name Change Process--FREE ATTORNEY TRAINING

A free attorney training offered by Free State Legal Project entitled, "A Rose by Any Other Name: Understanding the Name Change Process" will be held from 5:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at the GLCCB (the LGBT Community Center of Baltimore) at 241 W. Chase Street, Baltimore, MD 21201.  Our trainer who will provide attorneys with the nuts and bolts necessary for name change petition drafting will be Nicole Folks, Esq. of Kelliher & Salzer.  As an LGBT ally, she has been incredibly successful as she has helped numerous transgender individuals get name changes through the Circuit Court of Baltimore City.  Also important to any discussion of name changes or other issues with transgender clients, is the sensitivity that an attorney brings to the table.  Therefore, Owen Smith of Equality Maryland will present "Trans 101 for Allies," a short program on cultural sensitivity and the transgender community.

Free State Legal Project is the pro bono and reduced fee service for low-income lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Marylanders who are facing discrimination or other issues stemming from their gender identity or sexual orientation.  This training is being provided to all interested attorneys.  We ask that anyone who receives this training be willing to take a pro bono name change case for one of Free State's clients.

To attend this wonderful training, please RSVP to Lee Ann Hopkins, Esq., Executive Director at lhopkins@freestatelegal.org.  You may also call 410-625-LGBT (5428) and leave a message.
